Woody

Hi, my name is Woody and I have been skateboarding since 1976. My mum and dad bought me a skateboard for Christmas — I didn't even know I wanted one, but I feel I found my lifetime path. I really don't know what my life would have been like without skateboarding.

I have met so many good people along the way and my skating has taken me all over the UK and to a good few foreign destinations.

I've never been a great skater, but it has always made me smile (except for the few occasions when I have broken bits of me) and I still enjoy skating as much as I can. But my real passion now lies in passing on my knowledge and encouraging others to learn to skate — this includes a monthly Girls Only skate night at Ramp City Skatepark, which provides a safe environment for girls to skate in.

I want to try to encourage people to get as much from skateboarding as it has given me over the years. I also represent Realskate Northwest as a coach too.

Realskate Northwest are passionate about ensuring those who are interested in learning to skateboard do so safely and have the best possible experience.

All Girls Skate Nights at Ramp City provide the perfect space for women, and those who identify as such, to work on their skills with individuals who know and love skateboarding. This non-judgemental space is a safe haven for skateboarding females, without the pressure of other wheels.

Realskate Northwest has attended All Girls Skate Nights for a few years now, providing free coaching and getting new riders comfortable and confident on their boards — and each time is just as rewarding as the last. There are boards available for people to try, and reputable coaches on hand to ensure riders feel safe and leave feeling happy with their accomplishments.

Jess Winter

"Being a part of Girls Night with Woody means the world to me. I started skateboarding at Ramp City when I was 15 — there was one, maybe two other girls present. Now, because of girls night, it's encouraging girls & women of all ages to give skateboarding a go in a safe & encouraging environment, getting them ready to go out skating in the world.

If I had this when I was younger I would have thrived even further than I have today, and I'm so stoked that Blackpool's girl skate scene is growing more and more — one that I can contribute to whenever I can."
